Nowadays when we have all the complexities of the internet, we can bet on greyhounds online with the simple click of a button. It is easy to forget though that greyhound racing as we know it today came about due to a technological invention that was very clever for its time. That invention was the artificial hare and its inventor was Owen Patrick Smith.
Before Owen Smith all dog racing was based on coursing where the dogs raced on a straight track and chased a real hare. Some say that Smith was motivated to save the hares from what was sometimes a painful death, but there seems to be sparse evidence of that. It is more likely that he was motivated to create oval tracks around which greyhounds could race. He created his first one in California in 1919.
It was some years before this variation of the sport appeared in England. In 1926 the first greyhound racing course was opened and such was its popularity amongst the British working classes that by the end of the following year forty more of them had been opened.
Whilst horse racing was seen as a sport for the gentrified classes, greyhound racing was available to the working man who could attend races after work in the evenings, Betting on the sport was an extremely important aspect and even ownership of a greyhound became a possible aspiration for an individual or a small consortium.
You can enjoy greyhound racing without ever attending a greyhound stadium, but if you have never done so then you should try it at least once. Betting on it is simplicity itself. All you need to do is find a reputable online bookmaker (and nowadays it is almost certain that all of them are), open an account and place your bet.
To help you find a good place to bet on greyhounds, there are a number of comparison sites that should help you select the one that is good for you.

Paper Betting: Practice Sports Betting
Posted on 02. Oct, 2011 by admin.
Before you place real sports bet with real money, practicing can help you test the water. There are bonus money and free bets being offered by online bookmakers, but you shouldn’t really use these bonuses for practice at all; you can actually use them to make solid profits when you are ready. So how can you practice sports betting? Paper betting!
Placing paper bets is similar to placing regular real bets; you visit your favorite bookmakers to check available matches and odds before ‘betting’ by writing down the amount of bet you make and at what odds on a small notebook. Before you place your bet, make sure you do all the betting strategy and calculations you plan on using when you place actual bets with real money. See the match results and calculate the amount of profits or losses you make for the bet.

It would be best to ease your way into sports betting by practicing for several weeks. When I first started betting, I paper bet for four weeks before I finally decided it was time for me to move on to the next level. You wouldn’t have to rush things at all, because in time you will be ready for the real deal.
Take the difference in sensations and excitements into consideration. Should you decide to place real bets, check if there are different emotions that influence your decision. Adapt to using real money to place bets; before you know it, you can place bets properly and enjoy a lot of profits from sports betting.

Sports Bettors + Casino Betting = ???
Posted on 26. Sep, 2011 by admin.
I never do understand why online bookmakers — known to be offline bookies as well, and established ones none the less — are adding online casino to their sports betting platform. Although the added feature can be great for some of you, it is actually disastrous for most of today’s sports bettors. I have seen profits grinded one match at a time simply lost after playing minutes of casino games.
You need to remember that you have the right to ask the bookmaker to block you from their online casinos. This is probably the best way to handle the issue if you have no skills or knowledge on casino gambling at all. You can be a lot better enjoying your winnings instead of spending them at online casinos.

For some of you who are actually familiar with online casinos and have the required skills and knowledge, this may not be such a disaster at all. You can actually be even more profitable, doubling your sports bets winning through casino games such as Blackjack or Poker. You wouldn’t have to risk your initial bankroll at all, since you are playing with winnings you get from sports betting.
You either can play casino games or you can’t. It would be best to steer clear of the online casino so that you don’t add risks to the overalls sports betting experiences, although jumping in as long as you know exactly what you are doing. At the end of the day, you are the one determining just how profitable you are.

Golf Betting – Yet another Sports Betting Opportunity
Posted on 19. Aug, 2011 by admin.
Our beloved sports betting world is expanding rapidly. Since several years ago, you can also place golf bets; if you enjoy the sport so much, you can actually bet on your favorite golfer just as easy as you can bet on your favorite football team. You will see similar fractional or decimal odds and most of the time you will be using similar user interface offered by your favorite online bookies.
It is the types of betting opportunities available that may be slightly different than football, although they are still highly similar to horse racing. When you see the odds are listed singularly, you are betting on place-finish. For instance, betting on the Road to Dubai 2010 golf tournament, you will see a Top 4 Finish bet is available; if you place a £10 bet on Lee Westwood at 1.56 odds, you will get £15.60 if Westwood finishes the tournament in first, second, third, or fourth place.
You can also bet on tournament winners as well. You will enjoy better odds and larger profits should you win the bet, but you do have to make better calculations to pinpoint the best golfer to win the tournament. Still suing the Race to Dubai 2010 as an example, if you got 1.56 odds for Top 4 Finish bet, you will enjoy a nice 5.1 odds if you bet on Lee Westwood winning the tournament. The good news is, golf betting can be studied and mastered easily. It can serves as one great opportunity to make money, or a side bet just in case you get bored with football or horse race betting.

Betting Too Many TV Games
Posted on 14. Feb, 2011 by admin.
The issue of betting too many TV games is becoming more prominent among sports bettors; most of them actually lost a lot of money because they are wagering on several matches being aired on TV. There is no such thing as easy when you are juggling between seven or eight wagers each weekend.
There are several reasons why you must always keep your betting at a reasonable level. Betting on one or two match is reasonable, but seven are definitely too much. Remember that in order to bet responsibly, you also need to do proper calculations and consider every betting angle; how can you do all those preparations properly when you are rushing into seven bets?
I’ve discussed before how focus is essentially important for sports bettors, and this is a clear example of superb lack of focus. Believe me when I say that you will be losing more money than you win when you juggle through several different matches each weekend. You may have the needed bankroll and even skills to handle such task, but you wouldn’t be able to focus on your bets properly.
A good approach is to screen betting opportunities and select several that you see can be very profitable. Don’t worry about whether or not the game is televised; you can always catch the results through live score feature also offered by your online bookmakers. Stop worrying about the ‘duty’ of betting on every televised sporting events, and start putting your mind into focused and calculated bets.

Why Most Sports Gamblers Lose
Posted on 01. Jan, 2011 by admin.
If you are currently wondering why you kept losing your bets all the time, this article is perfect for you. Before you decide to quit sports betting altogether, let’s take a look at some of the worst sports betting mistakes you can make.
The first classic mistake is not having proper bankroll management strategy. You need to be able to handle you cash properly before you can actually pocket your winnings. Setting your wager at higher or lower level than you can afford is also not a good thing to do when you are serious about being profitable in sports betting.
Choosing the right sports can also help you avoid losing much money in sports betting. Football and horse racing may be the two most favorite sports betting opportunities, but you can still bet on hockey, golf, even chess and darts. The key is finding the sport you can study, not simply the one you love or know inside out.
As mentioned above, knowing the sports inside out doesn’t mean you know how to bet on the sporting events properly. You may have mastered every detail about the Premiere League, but unless you are willing to spend time calculating handicaps and comparing teams, you are on your way to great losses for sure. Take your time and study details about betting on the sports before you actually bet with real money. Avoid these mistakes, and you will soon find yourself enjoying and of course maintaining handsome profits from sports betting.

Nadal delighted To Return
Posted on 23. Jun, 2010 by admin.
World number one tennis player Rafa Nadal has revealed that he could not be happier to be back at Wimbledon after a year away and insists that he is aiming to reclaim his title from last Years winner, Roger Federer.
Nadal was looking unbeatable last year when he suffered an injury early on in the season, an injury that caused him to miss both the French Open, a tournament which the 24 year old has won a remarkable five times already, and Wimbledon, leading to his great rival Federer winning both tournament’s in his absence.
The Spaniard has come back brilliantly this year though and has already won back his French Open crown, and his spot on top of the World rankings.
Next is Wimbledon though and Nadal will be desperate to also claim this title back after he broke Federer’s remarkable run of five successive titles at SW19 by defeating the Swiss in one of the sport’s greatest ever matches, the 2008 final.
And after suffering the disappointment of not being able to defend his first Wimbledon title, Rafa will now be focusing all his energies on this years tournament.
Nadal said: “It’s always special to play on this court.
“I’m very happy to come back to this tournament and play in probably the most beautiful and emblematic court in the world.
“I don’t feel like [it is] a defence of the title,” he said. “Roger has to defend that.
“I had the chance to defend in 2008 [but] I didn’t play [because of] the knee. That’s sport. Right now I going to try my best.”
With Rafa safely through to the second round, he will be one of the lucky players to be on the order of play on Centre Court as the Queen makes her first appearance at Wimbledon since 1977 and he admitted that the chance to play in front of the monarch would be an honour.
“For me, it is a pleasure to have the Queen here at Wimbledon. That’s very good for the sport,” he said.
Nadal is currently 223/100 with betfair to win Wimbledon with sportingbet offering 11/5 and Stan James offering 2/1.

Asian Handicaps
Posted on 03. Apr, 2010 by admin.
Aside from the common fixed odds we regularly use, you can actually find bookies offering Asian handicaps. Betting on Asian handicaps can really be exciting and rather rewarding at the same time, especially because there is no draw. It can be concluded as a mixture of money line and fixed odds betting.
The best thing about Asian handicaps is that you are actually increasing your winning chances from 33.3% to a whopping 50%; again, this is possible because the draw option is eliminated. Should the match ends with a draw, bookmakers can still determine whether you win or lose the bet by referring to the handicaps.
Let’s take World Cup match between Brazil and North Korea for example. The Asian handicap for this match is 0 : 2 ½. You can simply translate this handicap; North Korea is being awarded 2 ½ goals — against favorable Brazil — by bookmakers, meaning if the match ends with a draw, North Korea is seen as the wining bets. Another good thing about Asian handicaps is that your team don’t have to win the match for you to win your bet; the previous example explains clearly how you can win a bet on North Korea even when Brazil wins the match by 2-0.
The amount of payout is also determined by calculating your wager against the handicap for that particular match. It may seem complicated at first, but the calculation is actually very easy to understand. Let’s just safe the topic for future discussions for now.

How to Pick a Winner at the Cheltenham Festival
Posted on 09. Mar, 2010 by admin.
The Cheltenham Festival attracts a huge amount of betting. Over the four days of the Festival approximately £500,000,000 (five hundred million pounds) will be bet on its twenty four races. It is not possible in advance to be certain which horses will win and which ones will lose, but by applying a little bit of reason we can all improve our winning ratio.
Having said that, it is not necessarily always the case. There have been many stories of people who have picked winners by closing their eyes and sticking a pin into the lists of horses, others will always go on how well they like the name of the horse or if the name has some significance to their life or recent events. If you find that these type of techniques pay dividends, then stick to them. It is for those with less accurate predictive skills that logic becomes necessary.
Studying form is one approach that tends to pay off. Form will tell you how a horse has fared against other horses as a function of time. You can quickly see the results of recent races and determine if the horse’s performance is steady, improving or deteriorating. You should see how the horse has dome on similar courses, under similar conditions and for similar lengths. Check if the horse has raced against any of the current competition on previous occasions and how it has performed with respect to the weight being carried.
By getting a good look at the horses you can tell a lot about the horse’s condition even if you are not an expert. Does the horse appear healthy? Is it in good condition with well defined musculature? Is it alert and frisky without appearing too nervous or agitated? Is it looking hot and sweaty? It really is surprising how much you can tell just by looking.
It is also important to find out what other people think. Of course if tipsters could get it right all the time there would be no need for them wasting their time being tipsters, but they do tend to get it right more often than Joe Blogs. Listen to what they have to say and compare and contrast their predictions.
By developing these approaches you should be able to improve your performance rapidly. Good luck at the Cheltenham Festival .
